Workshops involve the audience throughout the presentation. They would normally involve interactive exercises, perhaps worksheets, role plays, active feedback during the session, or other forms of participation. These sessions will be given longer time slots (1-1.5 hours) and will not have a separate discussion scheduled (although you or others are welcome to add one during a leisure period).
|
Hands-on workshops are particularly encouraged. These also involve the audience throughout the presentation, but are less dependent on the spoken word than a typical workshop. Such sessions are, however, different from leisure sessions in that the presenter is expected to have some expertise on the subject, they should be structured and well-developed, relevant to autism and Autscape, and be informative or otherwise useful to participants as more than simply a means to relax.

A session that is like a workshop but consists of only a little presenter input and not as much structure may be better described as a structured discussion. These have a facilitator who may introduce a topic, bring reading material, manage the time so everyone gets to speak, or otherwise make things run smoothly. A discussion facilitator may have special expertise on a topic or may just be interested in it.

A session that is like a hands-on workshop consists of only a little presenter input and not as much structure may be better described as a leisure session. These have a facilitator who may introduce or teach about a topic of interest or a skill, bring material, or otherwise organise an activity. A leisure session leader will normally have a special interest in the activity, but this is not necessary.

| Note:While discussions and leisure sessions form a vital part of Autscape, sessions which are minimally structured, where the majority of the content comes from the audience, and/or which may be repeated year after year, do not demand the same level of preparation from presenters, thus are not currently included in the formal programme and do not attract a presenters' subsidy. All appropriate activities and topics are normally allowed, even if they have nothing to do with autism. You may fill in this form to propose a discussion or leisure session, although they will be asked for at a later time, or you may suggest it at any time between now and when the activity itself is due to begin (even after arriving at Autscape). |
