Notes:
- 1. Please read the relevant job description before nominating someone for
that post. Job descriptions for all posts can be found here:
http://www.autscape.org/organisation/chair
http://www.autscape.org/organisation/secretary
http://www.autscape.org/organisation/treasurer
http://www.autscape.org/organisation/generalThese descriptions have been updated to reflect Autscape soon becoming a charitable company.
- 2. Autscape is about to become a charitable company. Company registration will have occurred by the time of Autscape 2010. Charity registration is in process and expected to be complete within a few months at most. This means that those elected to this years committee must be willing to serve as company directors and charitable trustees. This is not as daunting as it may initially sound and does not involve committee members making any financial commitments. Full information about the responsibilities involved will be in the revised general committee member job description which will be available on the website in the next few days.
- 3. New committee members are welcome and no experience is required. However please read the job descriptions to ensure that you understand what is involved. The Autscape committee does not just make decisions about Autscape, committee members are also the volunteers who actually carry out virtually all the necessary work involved. So, being on the committee means making a significant commitment of time to putting in some work throughout the year, although for some positions the demand can vary. If you are unable to make that degree of commitment please consider becoming involved in other ways (see 4 below). For the committee as a whole, things are most intense in May and June. Autistic skill and productivity variations are understood. Think hard about what you may have to offer. Some abilities which are quite mundane in the NT world, such as being able to post things or make phone calls, are highly prized by the Autscape committee. The only universally essential skill is to be able to read and respond to e- mail because that's how the committee communicates. Committee members are currently elected for a period of one year. Before you stand for a position, please make sure you have the necessary skills and dedication to follow through for at least one year. Additional skills and a greater time commitment are expected in the named roles (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer).
- 4. You do not have to run for election to the management committee to be involved and help with running Autscape. If you would like to help but can't commit as much time you can join any of our subcommittees at any time. Details are at: http://www.autscape.org/organisation/becominginvolved
- 5. Please be sure you have someone's consent before you nominate them.
- 6. If you need help with your written statement, please email chair@autscape.org
- 7. You can nominate yourself, but you must be seconded by someone else who must also be a member of Autscape. If you did not select the membership option you can become a member by emailing registrar@autscape.org. If you want to run, but don't have a seconder, feel free to ask on the chat list if you subscribe to it. If not, send your statement anyway and we'll see if anyone is happy to second it (very likely).
- 8. Individuals may run for more than one position. Those who are nominated for a named position (Chair, Secretary or Treasurer) will be assumed also to be running for a position as general committee member if they are not elected to the named position, unless they say otherwise either in their nomination statement or at the AGM itself.
- 9. Please don't assume that once someone has been nominated for a position, that position is closed. More nominations give the membership greater choice, and this is a good thing.
Please post your nominations to chair@autscape.org.
